LOXM came about as an online ‘classified’ to fill a major hole in the way female experimental artists and musicians connect, share work, collaborate to make events, and promote themselves. What began as a very small group has become a large and rapidly growing cohort of mostly NYC based artists who co-curate monthly series in Bushwick, Brooklyn and nearby neighborhoods.

The artists range from established movers of the avant garde music scene to emerging and promising artists at the beginning of their careers. What they share is a desire to see a more representative, visible presence of women who already exist in the experimental music community, regardless of sub genre.LOXM hosted the first annual LOXM Festival on December 14 - 15, 2012.

The festival showcased female experimental musicians and noise artists. Curated by Thermos Unigarde (musician, founder of LOXM NYC), Mindy Abovitz (publisher & editor of Tom Tom Magazine), Camilla Ha (multimedia artist, musician), Jeanann Dara (musician, curator of La Sala), Megan Moncrief (musician), and Yuchen Lin (musician).  16 featured performers included:  Maria Minerva, Lesley Flanigan, Trabajo, Heidi Sabertooth, Maria Chavez, Lazurite, Snaykhunt, Opal Onyx and more.
