The Cocoon Project/CocoonNYC is a collaborative that documents and performs the handcrafted Cocoons with dancers, video projections, sound and music in site-specific, performed installations. The Cocoon Project was created by Sherry Aliberti, an architect and performance artist in 2010. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture at Pratt Institute in 2008. The Cocoon Project exhibits in New York City, most notably Grace Exhibition Space, Panoply Performance Lab, Gowanus Ballroom and alternative spaces like FIGMENT NYC, Art in Odd Places and Supernova (in Rosslyn, VA). Performance-installations are interdisciplinary, participatory and site-specific. Further collaborations have expanded the project nationally and internationally. Documentation of the project has appeared at Mocada Museum and published in Sculpture Magazine, and many forms of social media. Aliberti is currently developing community workshops with the Living Gallery in Bushwick, NY and Spread Art in Detroit, MI.

Spread Art is an artist-run creative incubator designed to foster new works through residencies & collaborations with artists, curators & organizations throughout the world. Founded in Brooklyn and now based in Detroit, Spread Art is a “by artists, for artists” grassroots nonprofit. Co-Directors Thomas Bell and Christina deRoos are multidisciplinary artists (sound, video, photography, mixed media), curators and event producers. Spread Art focus on experimentation and innovation. We support work that pushes creative boundaries, incorporates technology, invites public participation, and/or explores immediately-relevant social themes.
